Ruth Ann Schweitzer

Ruth Ann Schweitzer, 86, of Ford City, PA, passed away on Tuesday, March 25, 2025, at Butler Memorial Hospital unexpectedly from heart failure.

She was born on Feb. 28, 1939, in McKeesport, PA, the daughter of the late Daniel F. and Pauline (Meyer) Dougherty.

Ruth worked as an executive secretary with U.S. Steel. She was an excellent cook and baker. She enjoyed sewing and being outdoors, especially in her flower gardens. Ruth was a very social person with a great sense of humor and a friendly nature that could talk with anyone. She was described by one of her granddaughter's as "always fun and spunky". She enjoyed reading and attending her children's and grandchildren's activities. Ruth loved traveling with her husband to Europe, the Caribbean and spending time on the Florida Gulf Coast. She leaves behind a legacy of warmth, laughter, and the love of family and friends.

She will be dearly missed by her loving husband, Dr. Karl R. Schweitzer, whom she married on June 17, 1972; daughter, Erika R. Schweitzer-Mack and husband, Timothy of Drexel Hill, PA; son, Robert K. Schweitzer and wife, Janelle of Cranberry, PA; grandchildren, Ryan, Emily, Lauren Schweitzer and Allison Mack; brother, Daniel F. Dougherty of McMurray, PA, sister-in-law, Veronica Dougherty; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Ruth was preceded in death by her parents; siblings and their spouses, Thomas (Louise) Dougherty and Robert Dougherty, Joan (Hugh) McKeegan and Margaret (William) Sigmund; and sister-in-law, Norma Dougherty.

In keeping with Ruth's wishes, services were held privately. Contributions may be made in her memory to the Ford City Public Library, 1136 Fourth Ave., Ford City, PA 16226.
