Helen F. Rupp

Helen F. Rupp, age 85, of Templeton, PA, passed away Sunday, July 25, 2010, at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, Pittsburgh, PA surrounded by her family.

She was born on July 12, 1925, the daughter of Edgar and Molly (Parrott) White.

Helen was born and raised in Snyderville. A 1943 graduate of Kittanning High School, she married Benjamin G. Rupp June 5, 1947; this summer marked 63 beautiful years together. Helen held various positions throughout her employment, working for Woolworth’s, Montgomery Ward’s, and the former Schenley Distillery Plant. During WWII, Helen worked in Lancaster at a converted military factory dipping plane bomb hangers while Ben was serving in the US Army. Most recently, she drove school bus for the Armstrong School District for 10 years. Helen was a member of the Concord Presbyterian Church where she served as a former elder and a member of the Presbyterian Women’s Society. A faithful attendant of Sunday school for many years, she also taught Sunday school and sang in the choir. Her other memberships included the American Legion Auxiliary of Dayton and the Red Hat Society.

Faith, family and friends were a large part of Helen’s life. She loved family gatherings and spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. In her younger years, she and Ben took great pleasure in traveling, and have fond memories of their trip to Hawaii. Helen had an appreciation of the outdoors, and enjoyed tending to her lawn and extensive flower garden. One of her greatest passions was baking, and her chocolate chip cookies and pumpkin pies could warm any heart. She was a loving wife, caring mother, and good friend to all who knew her, and will be fondly remembered by the many people whose lives she has touched.

Helen was blessed with a wonderful family and will be deeply missed by her husband, Benjamin G. Rupp of Templeton; her son, David B. Rupp of Kittanning and her daughter, Annette F. Rupp of Templeton; three grandchildren, Lisa Claypool of Kittanning, Sara Miller and her husband Ian of Tarentum, and Amanda Conklin and her husband Chris of Athens, PA; five great grandchildren, Courtney and Chandler Milsom, Cailyn and Abby Conklin, and McKenna Miller; two brothers, Gerald “Pete” White of Montana and Ray White of Snyderville; and many brother-in-laws, sister-in-laws, nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents; an infant granddaughter; her daughter-in-law, Judy Rupp; her two brothers, Russell White and Woodrow White; and her sister, Hazel Brown.

Relatives and friends may visit from 2-4PM and 7-9PM on Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at the Concord Presbyterian Church, 576 St. Rt. 1037 Dayton. Additional visitation will be held from 10AM on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 until the time of funeral services at 11 AM with her pastor, Rev. David Murphy officiating.

Burial will follow at the Concord Cemetery, Dayton, PA.

In honor of Helen’s many years of support to the Sunday school programs, contributions may be made in her memory to Concord Presbyterian Church Sunday School Fund, 576 St. Rt. 1037 Dayton, PA 16222.
