Sidney A. Markby American Flag


Sidney A. Markby, age 86, of Tucson, AZ, died on Friday, July 23, 2010, at the Odyssey Hospice in Tucson.

He was born on February 14, 1924, in Armstrong County, PA, the son of Thomas and Catherine (Boyd) Markby.

Mr. Markby was a graduate of Leechburg High School, class of 1942, and he attended Penn State University. He proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II. Sidney lived in the Leechburg area for many years before moving to California where he worked for the US Postal Service. Sidney and his wife Wilda have lived in Tucson, AZ for the last 18 years. Sidney loved his home in Tucson where he and Wilda had many wonderful memories. In his leisure time, Sidney enjoyed reading a good book. Sidney was a great Pittsburgh Steeler Fan who enjoyed watching the games and cheering for his beloved team. Sidney was a member of the New Testament Baptist Church in Tucson. Sidney was a loving husband, caring stepfather and good friend, and will be deeply missed by the many people whose lives he has touched.

He was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers, Kenneth E., Thomas C., Raymond E., Harry J., Walden C., James B. Markby and one sister Elizabeth Preslipsky.

He will be deeply missed by his wife, Wilda (Gearhart) Markby with whom he shared 22 wonderful years of marriage; two step-sons, Dick M. Mechling and wife Lyneen of Mechanicsville, VA, Mark Mechling and wife Brenda of Cortelda, ID; three step-daughters, Linda Stroster of Tucson, AZ, Carol Adams and husband Deejay of Jacksonville, FL and Vickie Walters and husband Lance of Herford, PA; thirteen step-grandchildren and sixteen step-great-grandchildren.

Relatives and friends are invited to visit from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Wednesday, July 28, 2010, at the Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 515 N McKean Street, Kittanning, PA.

Additional visitation will be held on Thursday, July 29, 2010, at the funeral home from 10 AM until the time of funeral service at 11 AM with the Pastor Wally Rusnica officiating.

Burial will follow at the Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington, PA, where the American Legion Honor Guard will conduct military honors.

Memorial Contributions may be made in Sidney’s name to the New Testament Baptist Church, 2855 North Craycroft Road, Tuscon, AZ .
