Nick Nolte

Robert Nicholas "Nick" Nolte, 61, of Kittanning, PA, died Saturday, May 14, 2016, at his home.

He was born on December 3, 1954 in Kittanning, to Robert G. and Rita (Kletter) Nolte.

Nick graduated from Kittanning High School in 1972. He went on to attend Northwood Institute in Michigan, where he studied automotive marketing and management. Nick then returned home and took over the family business, Nolte Chevrolet.

Nick enjoyed fine woodworking and hand-made many pieces of furniture, including three canoes that he enjoyed on the river. The Allegheny River was his favorite place to be and he especially enjoyed going to the cove. He was well-known in the cove and regulars could tell when he arrived by the canoe he carried on the top of his pontoon boat. Nick's cooking skills and taste in wine were exceptional, and his boat always had the best garden-fresh treats in the cove, which he grew in one of his many gardens. He always supplied his family and friends with fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, garlic, shallots and basil that he grew. For Christmas, everyone always looked forward to his gifts of homemade hot pepper jelly and a great bottle of wine. Nick also spent much of his time at his camp on Crooked Creek where he and his close friends enjoyed many fine dinners with Nick as the chef. During the summer months he would live at camp and would boat to work every day.

In his younger years, Nick was a talented snow skier and water skier. Back then he was famous for hosting pig roasts and saloon parties where the men would dress up as cowboys and the women would dress as showgirls. He also greatly enjoyed going on duck hunts with his buddies, photography, reading and golfing. He was a long-time member and former board member of the Kittanning Country Club, where he spent countless hours as a child and as an adult. Nick's love for life was evident and he will continue to live on in the many wonderful memories shared by his family and friends.

He will be remembered with love by his sisters, Barbara Ann Nolte and companion, Henry Jary Wallace, of Oakmont, and Sue Nolte Bauer and husband, Jack, of Kittanning; nephew, John W. Bauer and wife, Erin, of Worthington; niece, Jennifer Bauer Eroh and husband, Jason, of Worthington; great-nieces and great-nephews, Abigail, Zachary and Jase Bauer, and Natalie and Emily Eroh; close friends, Steve Bono, Cal Miller and "Bones"; and longtime employees, Doris and Leroy.

He was preceded in death by his parents and close friends, Bobby Boyd and Hemi Denny.

Relatives and friends may visit from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at the Bauer Funeral Home, 515 N McKean St., Kittanning, PA.

Additional visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Thursday, May 19, 2016, at the funeral home, with the Rev. Monsignor William Rathgeb officiating.

Contributions may be made in Nick's memory to keep the locks open on the river, by donating to the Allegheny River Development Corporation, PO Box 364, Kittanning, PA, 16201.
