Donald W. Huntley, Jr.

Donald W. Huntley, Jr., 65, of Kittanning, PA passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2015 at St. Margaret Hospital.

He was born January 2, 1950, in Crucible, PA, the son of Donald W. and Evelyn E. (Maxwell) Huntley.

Donald lived in Johnstown most of his life but moved to Kittanning in 2004. He graduated from Ferndale Area High School in 1968 and then attended Indiana University of PA and Penn State University. He honorably served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War. Donald worked for the U.S. Department of Labor, Mine Safety and Health Administration, as a field office supervisor and a federal mine inspector, from 1982 until his retirement in 2012. He enjoyed his job and during his 30 years at MSHA, he received the Valor Award for Mine Rescue from the Department of Labor and an award for Mine Rescue at the Quecreek Mine, where he was one of the first officials on the scene during the disaster in 2002.

He attended the First Baptist Church of Kittanning, was a Mason and belonged to the Kittanning Elks Club #203. Donald loved traveling with his wife, Jean, and their favorite destinations were St. Thomas and their town house in South Carolina. Watching college football was one of his favorite pastimes and he especially enjoyed cheering for Penn State. Donald liked going to dinner with friends and spending time with them at Wick City Saloon. He also looked forward to walks with his friend Jeff. Working in his yard and getting coffee at Sheetz were some of his other favorite activities. Those who knew him will remember how he was enjoyable to be around and that he was the life of the party. Donald was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather, and he was known for giving back to the people he met.

He will be greatly missed by his loving wife of 46 years, Jean V. (Beers) Huntley, whom he married March 29, 1969 at Grace Presbyterian Church; daughter, Amy S. Huntley, of Raleigh, NC; son, Chad D. Huntley and wife, Susan, of Wheeling, WV; grandchildren, Shanelle Bowser, Amber Bowser and Kaylee J. Huntley; brothers, James B. Huntley and wife, Jamie, of Berwick, PA, and Robert H. Huntley, of Tampa, FL; sister-in-law, Pamela Huntley, of Tampa, FL; father-in-law, Alfred C. Beers and mother-in-law, Jessie V. (McClanahan) Beers, of Kittanning; nieces and nephews, James Huntley, Jr., Jill Huntley-Taylor, Jason Huntley, Jessica Huntley, Matthew Huntley, and Kellen Huntley; a great-niece, Rachel Huntley; and a close family friend, Crystal Slone of Raleigh, NC.

Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Donald and Evelyn Huntley.

Friends and family will be received from 2-4 and 6-8 PM on Sunday, May 3, 2015, at the Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 515 N. McKean St., Kittanning.

Additional visitation will be from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Monday, May 4, 2015, at the funeral home.

Burial will be in Lawn Haven Burial Estates, Worthington, PA, where military honors will be presented by the American Legion Honor Guard.

Memorial contributions may be made in Donald's honor to the American Diabetes Association, 1701 North Beauregard Street, Alexandria, VA 22311.
