James C. Preteroti, Jr., 77, of West Mahoning Twp., Smicksburg, PA, passed away Friday, October 24, 2014 at Indiana Regional Medical Center.

James was born on December 8, 1936 in Templeton, Armstrong Co., PA to James C. Preteroti, Sr. and Ethel (Slagle) Preteroti.

James previously lived in both Clifton and Hewitt, NJ for 44 years before moving back to Dayton, PA. He served in the US Navy from 1955 to 1959 and then relocated to New Jersey. James was employed for the Benjamin Moore Paint Manufacturing Company and its predecessors for 34 years and retired as a supervisor in 1996. After returning to Dayton, he became a member of the Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Church where he served as an Elder. James was also a member of the Dayton Senior Center and enjoyed reading and going hunting.

James is survived by his wife, K. Marlene (Lightner) Preteroti, whom he married May 17, 1957; daughter, Kathryn E. Vander Sande, of Timblin; sons, David C. Preteroti and Mariann, of Palisades Park, NJ, Dennis J. Preteroti and wife, Katherine, of Hewitt, NJ, and Nicholas S. Preteroti and wife, Marie, of Troutman, NC; grandchildren, Joshua Preteroti, Vincent Preteroti, DJ Preteroti, Kristen Preteroti, Aleksi Preteroti, Gary Vander Sande and Trish Vander Sande Bush and husband, Dan; great grandchildren, Johnathan and Adam Bush; sisters, A. Duchess Preteroti, of Salem, OH, and E. Faithe Anderson and husband, John, of Harviel, MO.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Vincent Preteroti; and one infant sister.

Family will receive friends on from 2-4 and 7-9 PM on Sunday, October 26, 2014 at Bauer-Bly Funeral Home, Inc., 125 East Main St., Dayton, PA.

Additional visitation will be held from 10 AM until the time of funeral services at 11 AM on Monday, October 27, 2014 at Dayton Glade Run Presbyterian Church, 2540 Dayton Smicksburg Rd., Dayton, PA, with Sheila Wadding officiating.

Interment will be in the Concord Cemetery, Dayton, PA.
