Lossie Mae Hicks

Lossie Mae (Reedy) Hicks, 80, of the Kittanning area, passed away Wednesday, October 22, 2014 at the Armstrong County Health Center.

She was born on January 21, 1934 in Goheenville, Boggs Twp., Armstrong Co., PA, to Miles Willis and Birtie Mae (White) Reedy.

Lossie attended the Goheenville School and later moved with her family to Kittanning, where her parents owned Reedy's Meat Market. She met her husband to be, Darrel L. Hicks, at a square dance at the Kittanning Hose Company #6 fire hall and they were married on October 12, 1950. Soon after Darrel was discharged from the US Air Force and after the Korean War broke out, they started their family and raised two sons, Darrel and David. Lossie was employed at the former Columbia Theater in Kittanning and then left to care for her family. Lossie was a member of the Salvation Army's Home League Ladies since 1950 and attended Christ Bible Fellowship Church, formerly known as Calvary Temple Church. Also, on occasion she attended the Sagamore Gospel Center. Lossie loved to bake and cook, especially when preparing meals for her family.

She is survived by her sons, Darrel H. Hicks and David T. Hicks, both of Kittanning; grandchildren, Christopher Hicks, of California, Thomas Hicks, of Kittanning, Danielle of Butler, and Shannon and Crystal Hicks, both of Kittanning; great-grandchildren, Owen, William, Victoria Mae, and Aiden; and half-sisters, Penny and Sheila Reedy, both of Chambersburg.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Darrel L. Hicks, who died May 18, 2000; brother, Marlyn Willis Reedy; one infant brother; and sisters, Goldie Bish and Wilda Milliron.

The family will receive friends from 2-4 PM and 7-9 PM on Friday, October 24, 2014 at the Bauer Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Inc., 515 North McKean Street, Kittanning, PA.

Additional visitation will be from 12 PM until the time of funeral services at 2 PM on Saturday, October 25, 2014, at the funeral home, with Rev. Phillip Mack officiating.

Interment will be in Elderton Cemetery, Elderton, PA.
